Club Bike Testimonials

The team were superb all weekend and I was treated like Rossi and the bike was looked after by all the club members all weekend and I could not of been more welcome .

I left the race weekend with a large smile and I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the bike so much I am looking to purchase a bike over the winter period

Alan Naylor, 2015

It’s an excellent way into racing, just being able to turn up and ride means you can concentrate on the racing while still getting to know how a weekend is run and it’s better than a works ride because Kev even cooks for you if you’re hungry.

Unfortunately, I did have an off in race 3 that made me feel guilty with all the hard work the Kev and the YPMers put in, but it definitely didn’t put me off – I bought a bike and was back on the grid for the final race weekend. Brilliant experience and I can’t believe that any other paddock could be as friendly or helpful.

Lee Huff, 2014

I enjoyed my 4 races on the YPM club bike better than any racing yet.  The support and friendliness in the YPM club was exceptional and the TZR 250 was great fun and a buzz!

Trevor Reeve, 2019

After 4 years of track days I decided to take the plunge and get back into racing so got in contact with Trevor who couldn’t have been more helpful in sorting out the club bike for the Pembrey round. The weekend went great with tips, banter and good dices with the ypmer’s. The bike ran well with Den Grant keeping a close eye on everything and making my weekend as stress free and enjoyable as he could.

After the weekend I decided I had to get a TZR and hope to be on the grid for a few rounds next year so thanks to all that made it a fantastic experience.

Andy Burscough, 2015

If you don’t have an ACU licence we can help you get one. You will need to join an ACU Motorcycle Racing Club (eg BMCRC – Bemsee). Depending on your age and any previous racing experience you will need to pass the ACU CTC licence course, which involves some class work and track time. See the BMCRC website for details. Trackday organisations are also offering ACU Licence courses.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who do I see on the day I arrive to race?2020-02-10T11:59:12+00:00

Len Whalin will be looking after you for the entire weekend plus there will be a handful of YPM riders that will already be known to you. Don’t worry there will be someone to look after you the whole weekend and you’ll meet most of the YPM’s as they generally come over to meet you and offer encouragement

What equipment do I need?2020-02-10T11:56:29+00:00

You will need a set of one piece leathers, an ACU approved crash helmet, gloves, boots and a back protector

What other costs do I need to consider?2020-02-10T11:56:58+00:00

In order to get your license you will have to pay for: ACU CTC course – £145-£175, Eyesite Test – avg £20, ACU license – £48, Bemsee Membership £35

How much track time will I get?2020-02-10T11:49:33+00:00

You will get the test day which should amount to nearly 1.5 hours of track time, 15 minutes qualifying on the Saturday morning followed by 2 races then on Sunday there’s a quick 2-3 lap warm up if required and then 2 more races

What bike will I be riding?2020-02-05T12:14:27+00:00

A fully race preppared TZR250 2MA in bright yellow with a nice 100 on the front.

Is there a minumum skill level required?2020-02-05T12:10:21+00:00

Not really. As long as you are not a danger to yourself or other riders you’ll be fine. We don’t advise going racing until you have a few track days under your belt.

Why do you do this?2020-02-05T11:45:30+00:00

To allow potential YPM riders to experience a complete race weekend before commiting finacially. The club bike is a very effective tool to keep our grids well stocked and protect the class.

What instruction is available of the test day?2020-03-10T21:29:39+00:00

BEMSEE run a full rider development program. You will be assigned an instructor who will talk to you and explain what’s required. Each pupil is different so it’s important to let the instructor know your concerns or areas you think you need help with. The instructor may have multiple pupils to look after and you may or may not be in a group. The intructor will follow you to observe and then advise. This service is provided free from BEMSEE and the instructors do it voluntary and at their own cost.

Is there an age restriction?2020-03-10T21:29:47+00:00

You have to be 16 or over to ride this bike. The range of riders is currently 18 to 60 plus

What do you expect from me?2020-03-10T21:30:03+00:00

All we ask is you don’t hesitate to ask anything at anytime. The only stupis question is the one that wasn’t asked. If you feel nervous, don’t worry, this is natural even the most seasoned racers get nervous. Do not under any circumstances worry about being last, there is no shame and someone has to be last. You will have the respect from everyone in the class for jumping over the fence to be on our grid. And finally please provide feedback to the club good or bad of your Racing experience…

Won’t I just get in the way of the fast riders?2020-03-10T21:30:14+00:00

Not at all. Even the fast riders started as rookies once. Getting lapped is part of racing, just stick to your line and the experienced riders will find a way past you often compromising themselves to protect you. But this is racing and incidents do happen.

How many bikes are normally on the grid?2020-03-10T21:30:20+00:00

On average we would expect 25-30 bikes at each meeting

Do I have to pay to fix it if I crash it?2020-03-10T21:30:26+00:00

Currently we do not charge. We can fix most things at the track but if you really bend it that could be then end of your weekend.

Can I arrive the day before the meeting starts?2020-03-10T21:30:33+00:00

Yes you can. As you will be testing on a Friday we recommend you get to the track on Thursday evening to get settled, try the bike for size and ask any further questions. There’s nothing worse than rushing on your first day racing
