2017 Points after Round 7

Postby Malc » Mon Apr 03, 2017 6:44 am

In the Full championship, Anthony Johnson is crowned as YPMRC Champion for 2017, and no-one can deny it's a thoroughly deserved championship win. AJ also broke new ground in being the first ever YPMer to lap below the 53 second mark, setting a new record of 52.887 seconds. Many congratulations AJ - inspiring riding all year.

The race for second place between Scott Grant and Doug Edmondson took a few twists and turns over the weekend. The net result of all this is Doug now holds 2nd place in the overall championship, with a lead of 12 points over Scott. It's all to play for in the last round of the year when we head back to Snetterton.

Michael Stanley had a chance to wrap up the Clubman Championship this weekend, but to do so would mean four Club wins. Recent form showed he was well capable of achieving this, and two wins on Saturday meant his team went into Sunday very hopeful of completing the job. However, some inspired riding by Andrew Burscough in the first race Sunday and Peter Branton mixing things up a little, means when all shaken down, Mike continues to lead the Clubman championship by 85 points over Andy, who has a strong grip on second place now. Lee Huff remains in third, but is now only 13 points ahead of Steve Redhead. When we go to Snetterton, 16 points would secure Mike the 2017 Clubman title irrespective of what the others do.

In the Rookie championship Alan Wood suffered a DNF in the first race Saturday and Paul Godbold took the win, followed by Barry Hobbs. Club Bike pilot for the weekend, Daniel Gough, took third rookie. It was normal service resumed Saturday afternoon with Alan sorting out his mechanical gremlins to take first, and again Paul and Barry second and third respectively.

The Sunday morning race was red-flagged after Barry had a heavy crash at Paddock Hill. It's fair to say the on-looking crowd was getting a bit worried for a while at the medical team attended to Barry, but a thumbs-up as he was loaded into the ambulance was well received by a well relieved crowd. Get well soon big fella!

After the restart, Alan, Paul, and Daniel finished the race in that order, and indeed same again for the last race of the weekend. Alan, now has a 56 point lead over Paul going into the last round of the year.

Barry has a 152 point lead over his nearest rookie challenger, so can be confirmed in third place in the Rookie Championship overall - some consolation for his after his woes this weekend.

The Team championship sees Wave Racing take over the lead from Whizzard Racing, and the Champagne Charlies take over in third place at the expense of Fech 2.
